Site update :: February 6th 2010
Hello and thanks for dropping in again. Well as is traditional, this year seems to be zipping by as fast as the last one did. Can't believe that we're already into Fabulous February already... do you detect a hint of sarcasm there? Anyway, more musings below...

Musings.
I've been told by people who know more about this web-design lark than I do to move my ramblings further down the page to keep things fresh, so that's what I'm doing... like I said earlier, this year is cracking on apace and it's started pretty well. The weather here in the UK has been more of a talking point than it usually is, what with plenty of snow and ice to keep things interesting. I personally love a colder climate, so I was like the proverbial pig in shit!
Go on, Get Lost.
My second album for Big Chill Recordings and One World Music in Australia has done very well. Since its release last September, it's garnered some fantastic praise - both from the press and from people who've been kind enough to e-mail me. The first pressing has almost sold out and I'm pleased to say that it made Number One in the Below Zero album charts at the end of 2009. It also had the accolade of making a rather respectable number 7 in the Juno downtempo albums of the year chart.
Tate Gig
At the end of the first week in January, I was at the Tate Britain in London for John Rixon's 'Quiet Voices', which has got to rank as one of the best gigs that I've done. It was almost on a par with the last one I did, way back in 2006. This time, I was performing at the other end of the duveen, quite the most spectacular setting for my ambient music. I decided to show 35mm slides on 4 EktaPro projectors - the whole thing went down a storm - more here.
alucidTV
Ed Richardson has been working hard on an exciting future project - getting live streaming alucidnation 'gigs' onto the net. We had a test run a couple of weeks ago when I was up at his Yorkshire studio which seemed to go OK but this is something that we're both quite excited about. As time has gone on, I find the whole process of performing live on stage a bit of a drag; more often than not I end up disappointing myself and getting a negative head on which ain't good for me or anyone else. So to perform live from the comfort of my studio with all my tools to hand makes perfect sense. This has been a pipe dream of ours since the mid-late nineties, and what with advances in up and download streaming it's now possible.
American Interview
I've done an interview for a new exciting lifestyle magazine called 'Sinning in L.A.'.
Ryan Simoneau, who used to edit LA Today is an admirer of my sounds and I talked with him about what I do and also gave them an exclusive mix of some old and new tracks. You can read and hear more here.
Compilations
Circles came out on Sound of Speed Records in Japan - a brilliant compilation featuring some of my current fave tracks. One of my compositions '16 Below' was included. Watch out for a 12" single later this year with alucidnation and Shur-i-Kan sharing the vinyl.
What else? Well, I've been writing new material on and off - the usual pace. Since last November, I've written four or five new tracks that I'm pretty happy with. My work seems to have taken a more introspective direction, more ambient I guess.

FaceBook
I've succumbed to the evils of FaceBook [again]. - seeing as I heard in the news earlier today that this social networking phenomena is the most popular thing since sliced bread, I thought I may as well get on board. If you can't beat 'em...
In other news, it looks as though I'm going to be producing Emily Davies' debut album in the Spring. More on this soon; she's a talented chick and I'm looking forward to working with her.

Radio

My radio show on Chill seems to be doing well, RAJAR figures suggesting that it's getting on average about 40,000 listeners a week... although it's a damn shame that Global Radio deem Chill not worthy of being on as many transmitters as it used to be.

Record Label

The Lucid Recordings Shop is now fully functional. This means that you can order physical product from here as well as digital download.
