In 1995, I, along with lots of other people, bought a copy of the Banco de Gaia LP ‘Last Train to Lhasa’. It entered the Top 20 album chart and was also nominated for a Brit award. I’m not sure if the album won said award, but hey; it’s more about the getting there, rather than the arrival.
Either way, Toby Marks is still an established act and has chosen to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this release with a re-issue on compact disc, containing a remastered, expanded version of the original triple LP, plus a disc of remixes by a few choice producers.
Kindly, he’s asked me to do one, so I chose the track featured above – ‘White Paint’. I have to be honest and say that it wasn’t my favourite track on the original release, but I think I’ve done a reasonable job of giving it the ‘alucidnation treatment’, calming the whole vibe down and adding another dimension to the piece.
The album will be released on Toby’s own label in 2015 – more specific dates to follow when I know more.
